Nylon (PA)

Technical polyamide: mechanical strength, lightness and self-lubrication. The most versatile engineering plastic for high-demand mechanical parts.

The material

What is Nylon?

Nylon, or polyamide (PA), is one of the most widely used engineering plastic materials in mechanical and industrial applications. Its combination of high tensile strength, low coefficient of friction, self-lubricating capacity and excellent wear resistance makes it the ideal alternative to metal in parts subjected to continuous mechanical stress. At Plásticos Ferplast we supply nylon sheets, rods and tubes (PA6 and PA66), and manufacture custom nylon parts by CNC machining. With over 70 years of experience in technical plastics, we advise you on selecting the most suitable grade for your application.

Technical properties of the material

Frequently asked questions

PA6 has lower rigidity and greater impact absorption, ideal for parts subjected to impacts. PA66 is more rigid, harder and has a higher working temperature, preferable in applications with high mechanical loads.

Yes. Nylon has self-lubricating capacity thanks to its low coefficient of friction, making it ideal for friction parts in applications where lubricant is not viable.

Yes, in specific grades. FDA-certified nylon grades are suitable for food contact and are used in food processing and packaging machinery.

Yes. Nylon machines very well, allowing tight tolerances in precision parts such as gears, bushings and guides.

Nylon absorbs some moisture from the environment, which can produce small dimensional variations. For critical applications there are stabilized grades or Delrin (POM) is recommended as an alternative.
