Teflon (PTFE)

The most chemical and extreme heat-resistant plastic. When no other material holds up, Teflon provides the solution.

The material

What is Teflon?

Teflon, technically known as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), is the engineering plastic with the most extreme properties on the market. Its chemical resistance is virtually total—withstanding almost all known acids, bases, solvents, and oxidants—and its thermal performance is exceptional, with a continuous working temperature of up to 260°C. At Plásticos Ferplast, we supply PTFE Teflon sheets, rods, and tubes, and we also manufacture custom Teflon parts via CNC machining. Its low coefficient of friction (the lowest of all known solids) also makes it the ideal material for gaskets, seals, guides, and sliding surfaces in critical environments.

Technical properties of the material

Total chemical resistance

Resists virtually all acids, bases, and solvents.

High working temperature

Up to 260°C in continuous use (peaks up to 300°C).

Lowest coefficient of friction

μ ≈ 0.04, the lowest of all plastics.

Extreme non-stick properties

No material adheres to PTFE.

Excellent electrical insulator

Even at high frequencies and high voltage.

Does not absorb moisture

Does not degrade in humid or corrosive environments.

Biologically inert

Suitable for medical and food use.

Extreme thermal range

Operates from –200°C to +260°C.

Frequently asked questions

PTFE resists virtually all known acids, including hydrofluoric acid and aqua regia. Only elemental fluorine and certain molten alkali metals will attack it.

Yes, although it requires specific tools and parameters due to its softness and tendency for cold flow. At Ferplast, we have experience in PTFE machining with tight tolerances.

Yes. PTFE is biologically inert and is approved by the FDA and European regulations for food contact.

Virgin PTFE is the standard. Filled grades (with glass fiber, graphite, or bronze) improve mechanical strength, thermal conductivity, or dimensional stability.

PTFE has a certain degree of flexibility greater than other rigid plastics, but it is not an elastic material. Its low rigidity can be a limitation for parts requiring high dimensional precision.

What those who already trust Ferplast say

We needed gaskets for a reactor with concentrated sulfuric acid. Only Ferplast's PTFE met the requirements. 48h delivery and complete documentation.
